Buckling Down

Hey everyone!
I am really sorry it has been so long since I have updated. Having a break has just been so nice! But I have decided to buckle down, get to work, get the show on the road! Yesterday I picked up a copy of Tim O'Brien's book "Going After Cacciato," which I think will be a really interesting read. I loved "The Things They Carried," so I thought I would enjoy one of his other books as well. I've also been reading "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass." I have enjoyed them so much because as a child seeing the movie I never stopped to think that the wonderful story came from a book and it was really cool to see the words that transferred into an amazing childhood classic.

Okay, now it is time for some artwork! Today's will be from freshman year again, but from my 2D Design class!
Alright... These were all from one project where we explored straight and curved lines. My favorite is the second from the top, but it may be too cluttered for some people's taste. These all took so long, and I don't think I was very proud of them at the time, but now when I look at them I really like them!

So, that's it for today! Oh! And one more thing, go to www.peopleofwalmart.com
there is some pretty insane (but also hilarious) pictures on there! Enjoy!

Free Time Is Amazing.

Phew. So I am finished with finals finally! Once again, my brain is blank... not much to say. I've been slowly preparing for my trip home on Tuesday. I went through my clothes and got rid of some things I never wear. I collected some books, papers, etc. that I won't be using anymore and now I have a huge pile of unused items sitting in my room waiting to be loaded into my car isn't coming home with me right now, but I thought I'd get it out of the way and save Matthew the trouble of packing up all my junk for me. I'm sure he appreciates it. :)
So anyway, today's post includes artwork from Freshman year at SCAD... let's see what I can dig up!
Alright: artwork from Drawing 1

White chalk on black paper... it was interesting to draw because unlike a regular drawing of black on white where you draw the shadows and the highlights are the paper, I had to draw the highlights and not draw the shadows... Quite challenging.

This is the beginning of this drawing to show you a little bit of the process. It is charcoal on bristol paper.

This is the finished product... or so I thought. I brought it to class and my professor said, "Okay. Now you have to destroy it." ...

So THIS is the final product. I actually like the one that isn't "destroyed, " but I didn't have a choice because it was the assignment. I still like it though!

Alright. Well that's all for today! Let me know what you think!

The End of High School

Today will be the last post with my high school artwork. There is one piece I did that I cannot find anywhere, so once I locate it will post it, but until then, today is the last of the HS work. I have some landscape/nature pieces as well as a texture study. I don't really have much else to say today! I hope you enjoy!

Good Morning All!
I have been thinking about how I will go about getting all of my artwork up here without posting a million posts a day. So, I think since I am about to have a month and a half break from school, I will start with my high school work and gradually make it to present day over the course of November and December. I think that is the best option that way my progress will be more evident and it will be easier for me to keep track of what I have posted or not posted. I really need to work on making these posts shorter... I just get so excited!! :)
So today I will post my favorite portraits from high school...Enjoy!

Finals Week at SCAD

During Finals week things tend to be annoying. VERY annoying. Everyone wants to go home and be done with all of their stressful work. I think it might even be more stressful than a normal college's finals week because they usually just have a bunch of exams. Us SCAD kids, we have exams PLUS projects. I got lucky this quarter because I don't have any real exams, but my projects are intense. And which is even worse, I have to get all my work professionally printed... along with every other advertising, graphic design, photography, interior design, and who knows how many more students. It is HELL. Every printing place is packed and the workers are angry and touchy and the students are in a hurry and stressed. It imagine it like black friday at Walmart. Yikes.
My stress is relatively low, because for the first time EVER EVER EVER i have not procrastinated and my projects that are due Thursday are done for the most part!
1 is a logo for an imaginary reggae/jazz/r&b record label called "beat"
and this is it...

Then my other project is a redesign of a restaurant logo and I will post that stuff when it is perfected...

So anyway. I'm off to get my stuff printed! Wish me luck!

The Beginning of It All

Hello!
Today I became inspired. It did not happen all at once, but my inspiration occurred because of a certain series of events. It began when I was looking over the blog of one of my SCAD friends. He had invited me to vote for his tee shirt designs and as I was voting I saw a link to his blog. I decided to check it out because I really like his artwork and I was interested in what he might have on there. As I was perusing his page, I thought about how I would like to keep a record of my artwork, side projects, or even little thing I find interesting that I'd like to share with my friends, family, or even random people who run across my page. This thought did not put me into motion quite yet.
The next event to occur was a chat with my good friend and roommate Evie. She and I were discussing my future and I was telling her that I was somewhat unsure that I would be successful (everyone has those worries, I believe). She reassured me that I am a confident and driven person and as we spoke I decided I needed to start putting myself out there. I want to become more well-rounded and I want to share my thoughts and art with the world... well maybe not the world... but anyone who is interested. After these two seemingly unimportant events, I have decided to make a very important journey into my artwork and my interests... Thus the blog titled "My Artistic Journey."
So, now I begin. Please enjoy my blog as I progress, and please pardon my very long first entry. I will try to keep them short and sweet from now on!
Have a lovely night! :)

ps... I just made a new email: elidew20@gmail.com to avoid the spam and junk in my old one! feel free to email me any time!
